Quantum EF : The Green Drilling Fluid System
The Quantum EF and Quantum HPW drilling fluid systems developed by fluid scientists at Rapid Energy Services is proving to outperform traditional water-based mud and oil-based mud drilling fluid systems in the field. The (patent pending) Quantum technology is based upon a new methods of creating shale inhibiting oil-in-water emulsion with the internal oil phase being totally biodegradable plant derived ingredients.
The totally green nature of the Quantum system represents a needed addition into the world of drilling fluids, allowing drilling fluids to be used in all areas. Actual field testing of drill cuttings have proven that drill cuttings taken from Quantum systems are acceptable for mix bury and cover at the well location, greatly reducing the cost of disposal.
Quantum systems do not use chloride salts in the mud system. This avoids encountering issues with brine and brackish water, allowing land applications with very little soil / plant limitations. Total re-vegetation of areas where mixed soil / cutting volumes are applied are easily managed to meet local, state and federal requirements.
A key improvement is in using a plant-derived lubricity additive rather than using synthetic hydrocarbons, this has allowed Rapid to offer a totally biodegradable water-based drilling that performs equal to and better than invert oil-based muds.
